A passport with eight months left is fine. With five it is unusable, and the app says so rather than waiting for the expiry date. EAD renewal windows open at 180 days. I-94 admit-until beats the approval notice, every time.

PRIVACY IS THE ARCHITECTURE

There is no server holding your files, no account, and no upload step. Your passphrase never leaves the device, and the index — every name, date and number you typed — is encrypted in the browser before it is stored. The document files land in a folder you picked as ordinary PDFs and images, so they open without this app and outlive it. Anything else with access to that folder can read them too, so put it somewhere you would be content leaving the paper.

The corollary: lose the passphrase and the index is gone — every date, number and history entry that makes the folder mean anything. There is no reset link, because there is nobody to ask.

Is this legal advice?

No. MyImmiVault is a filing cabinet that can count days. Anything that matters should be confirmed with a licensed immigration attorney.

Why not just use Google Drive?

A folder holds files. It doesn’t know your passport fails the six-month rule in March, that your EAD window opened last week, or how to hand a consulate one ordered PDF. And Drive indexes everything you put in it; this app never reads a file at all.

What does it cost?

Nothing, and there’s no version that costs something. There’s no server to pay for, so there’s no subscription, no trial, and no point where features get locked.

What if I lose my passphrase?

The index is unrecoverable — every date, number and history entry you typed, and the record of which document is current. The files themselves stay readable in your folder, but nothing that counted the days comes back. That is the trade for nobody else holding a key. Write it down somewhere safe before you fill the vault.

Does it work for non-Indian families?

Yes. The US document types are universal; OCI is one optional category among eighteen, and you can add your own.

Can my spouse use the same vault?

Yes — one vault holds the whole family. Share the folder and the passphrase the way you would share a safe.

Where is my data if my laptop dies?

Wherever you pointed the folder. Put it on a synced drive and the folder comes back with it — your documents as ordinary files, the encrypted index beside them.

Can I use it on my phone?

You can look around the demo on a phone, but a real vault needs a desktop browser (Chrome or Edge) — the app writes into a folder you pick, and phone browsers won’t give a page that access. Set it up on a computer; the folder syncs wherever you keep it.
